People’s use of language is bizarre. On one hand, they’ll do anything to shorten a name or phrase (“insta” “my Facebook” “JLo”), OTOH, they’ll use unnecessary phrases like “out and about” without thinking. Here’s an example.

“I’d expect it to take at least a few hours for [power restoration crews] to get out and about and address fallen trees and other issues.”

Are all tropical storms this year named after SCOTUS justices, or just the ones owned by billionaires?

I don’t like repeating myself, I don’t like being redundant, and I don’t like saying the same thing over and over

My father passed away in 1998. Our relationship was tough, and his passing was hard for me for the wrong reasons, not the right ones. But now, 25 years later, I’m fine about it. I’m happy to say that I’m in a good place as far as who he was and us. It’s an outgrowth of how I try to see and relate to all people.

Why I Hate Zoom

It has nothing to do with virtual meetings. I’m mostly fine with those, I just wish Zoom hadn’t become the “standard” for them.

Zoom is a terrible Mac app, and a lousy app overall.

It puts the window on top of all your other windows while you’re waiting for the meeting to start and the only way to get it out of the way is to minimize it.

It highlights buttons in dialogs but pressing return doesn’t do anything in those dialogs, forcing you to move your cursor over and click.

It doesn’t remember settings like Original Sound for Musicians or having the chat and/or participants open across launches, even for the “same” meetings.

If you’re on a free account, when your time runs out, it disconnects everyone on the meeting without warning.

There are too many options and windows when you want to log into a meeting. On top of that, if there’s an update for Zoom, I seem to remember having to do that sometimes. These always happen when I’m late.

In Texas, the governor does not have to sign a bill for it to become law.

“Upon receiving a bill, the governor has 10 days in which to sign the bill, veto it, or allow it to become law without a signature.” https://www.house.texas.gov/about-us/bill/

Last week my wife bought organic milk that came in a glass bottle. I’m really liking it but I’m not sure if it’s really different or just a phony “vinyl is better” thing happening.

Reasons to be Cheerful, MaryLou Costa: [Woodworking and Hugs: Inside the Mental Health Movement for Men](https://reasonstobecheerful.world/mens-sheds-mental-health-woodworking-therapy/) “Men will talk shoulder to shoulder, but not necessarily face to face.”

Charges and indictments are nice and all, but I won’t celebrate until Teflon Don is actually in jail. Even he is “innocent until proven guilty,” like it or not.

We don’t really have a chance to fix the gun problem in America until we fix the money in politics problem. There are a number of organizations working on this including represent.us, AmericanPromise.net, and MoveToAmend.org. I hope you check them out and consider helping.
